The Grossglockner Resort Matrei-Kals reaches a height of 2,400 metres. This altitude promises absolute snow reliability well into the spring. Family-friendly ski resort in East Tyrol

Little ski bunnies will experience fun-filled snow adventures and discover their passion for skiing. The BOBO Kinderland at the Goldried mountain station is ideal for young beginners. Ski touring in Matrei-Kals

Snowshoe hiking in the Hohe Tauern mountains

You will observe wild animals in their natural habitat on a guided snowshoe hike including "Nature Watch" through the Hohe Tauern National Park. A ranger will answer all your questions: do marmots really sleep all winter? And what do the wild animals feed on during the winter when everything that can be eaten is covered under a blanket of snow? What do chamois, ibexes and eagles do in the cold season?

Cross-country skiing in the Hohe Tauern National Park

Glide along the snow covered landscape with pleasure. Recharge your batteries with every breath of fresh mountain air. The Hohe Tauern National Park boasts an attractive network of cross-country skiing trails for all levels.
The wonderfully sunny Tauernhaus circuit in Matrei is ideal for beginners and children. The route starts directly by the Matrei Tauernhaus. The Moosloipe trail also starts from there, which can be taken in both classic and skater styles. The Gschidalm cross-country ski trail is another worth mentioning. Sports enthusiasts glide out of the valley passing nostalgic Alpine pastures in classic style. Those who like it a little more demanding can take the Löppwald circuit (starting point Tauernhaus).

Winter adventure ice climbing

Experience a winter adventure beyond comparison! You battle your way up the frozen waterfall with crampons and two ice axes and look forward to arriving at the top like a snow king! The Eispark Osttirol, Austria's largest artificial winter climbing park, is just a 30-minute walk from the Matrei Tauernhaus.
